Mourners held a funeral procession Tuesday, July 23, for these killed after Nigerian police and Shi’ite Muslim protesters clashed within the capital Abuja Monday, July 22.
Islamic Motion of Nigeria members repeatedly take to the streets of Abuja to name for the discharge of Shi’ite cleric Ibrahim Zakzaky, who has been in detention since 2015. IMN members say Zakzaky requires medical assist.
Clashes between police and Zakzaky’s backers have raised fears that the IMN may flip to violent insurgency as Sunni Islamist group Boko Haram did after police killed their chief in 2009. (Reuters)
